At Ferns National School, the entire school had been collecting plastic bottles for the previous month in preparation for the arrival of the Architectural Circus. The senior years had maintained the secret reason for collecting bottles from the rest of the school and had rewarded collectors with prizes for their efforts.
On the day, icecream architecture and the senior pupils discussed the plans for construction, the benefits of the greenhouse and the potential produce that could be grown throughout the year. It was decided to construct the monopitch frame to resonate with the monopitch gables of the main school. The pupils eagerly got the infill panels underway by sorting the collected bottles into groups and trimming them down to form cylinders. When cylinders were formed, they were packed tightly between the frame to create the walls and roof. Construction of the greenhouse devoured the stack of bottles and a visit to the recycling centre was required.
